Here you’ll learn how you can block internet users and prevent them from connecting to your network. This tutorial shows the way in which you can legally block other people from using your WiFi or internet connection through MAC address filtration setting in your router. Thus helping you in increasing your bandwidth and speed of your internet connection. This is an ideal solution if you are a person who wants all your internet bandwidth for yourself, or you are suspicious if someone has broken into your network and is stealing your internet. Well, worry no longer, because you are at the right place to block internet users of those sort. Before we get started, let me just take a moment to explain what we are going to achieve in this post.
Bandwidth, as we all know, is the rate of data transfer available to a device connected to the internet. Which means higher the rate, the faster the internet speed on the device and lower the rate slower the internet speed on the device. So by blocking internet users connected to your network (which are utilising bandwidth) you can enjoy higher bandwidth on your device(s) and thus get stuff done faster on the internet. All you need to do is, follow the below simple steps.
Although any router should work perfectly fine with our tutorial but we would highly recommend the router AC1750 by NETGEAR which is known to improve not only the range of the WiFi signals but also boosts speed performance for both 2.4 and 5 GHZ devices.
1) Download Wireless Network Watcher software
You can download this software here:
2) Extract WirelessNetworkWatcher.rar file
Right click on the WirelessNetworkWatcher.rar file and click ‘Extract here’ using WinRaR software. If you don’t have WinRaR, click here to download.
3) Select your network adapter
Select network adapter you are using to access the internet on your device. In my case, I am using my computer’s internal WiFi adapter.
4) Search devices connected to network
Click on ‘Start scanning’ icon to discover all devices connected to the network
5) Identify devices to be blocked
After you have scanned your network, you’ll see a list of devices connected to your network in real-time. Identify and select device(s) you want to block and right click on them, and then click ‘HTML Report – Selected items’
6) Copy MAC addresses
After step 5, a new page will open in the browser containing details of selected devices. Here you need to copy the MAC address of the device(s)
7) Open router settings
Open a new tab in your browser and type your ‘Default Gateway IP address’ in the address bar and press enter. If you don’t know your ‘Default gateway IP address’, then click here to find out. After that, you’ll be asked to enter your username and password to access router settings. If you don’t know yours, click here to find that out too.
8) Browse to MAC address Filter
Once you are inside, you need to find MAC address filter list to be able to block internet users. In binatone routers, you can find by clicking on Interface setup>Wireless and then scroll down to bottom. Every router have a different router settings user interface, if you have a different router then you’ll have to do a little search around to find out. It is generally in the wireless section of any router.
9) Enable Allow/Deny action and paste MAC address
In the action bar, you have an option to choose either ‘Allow association’ or ‘Deny association’.
i) Allow association : This option will tell your router to allow only devices with following MAC addresses to connect to your network and block internet users other than in the list.
ii) Deny association : This option will tell your router to block interet users with following MAC addresses, however, other devices can connect to you network.
NOTE : All devices have unique MAC address, no two devices shall have same MAC address.
However, in this example, we are choosing ‘Deny Association’. Paste MAC addresses of devices you want to block below in the list as per the format (as shown in image). Then enable ‘Activated’, and then click ‘Save’.
